Favorite Foods of
Colombia

Hispanic culture is such that each of those touched by Spanish influence transforms it in one way or another. Yet, that influence is noted in the methods by which various Hispanic cultures use ingredients, transforming their traditions just enough to give them that taste of Spanish culture.

One tradition, especially in Central and South America, would be corn tortillas. Colombia has a very interesting recipe for these tortillas they call Arepas de Chocolo, and the preferred method is to create tortillas the very old fashioned way, but that’s not always practical in today’s kitchen.

You don’t picture turnovers in many locations as favorite foods of Colombia, and not normally as a main dish. But in certain Hispanic cultures, that’s exactly what you would see. This is evidenced in the creation of Empañadas Paisas or Meat Filled Turnovers.

This recipe is interesting because it gives you a choice of meats to use. That makes it more intriguing for favorite foods of Colombia, and gives the opportunity to transform the taste ever so slightly.

Believe it or not, they actually use turnovers as appetizers, in place of a part of the main dish. That would also make for quite the intriguing addition.

There are many small treats or creations that can be call favorite foods of Colombia. Those consist of puffed dough creations, like buñuelos or fried cheese puffs, hojuelas or fried puff squares, and many others as well.

When you think about it, they are quite consistent with what we might think of as doughnuts or something very similar. Cheese puffs, something like those cheese puffs you get as appetizers or hors d’oeuvres. Much as the empañadas may be considered to be, these appear to have more reason to be considered as hors d’oeuvres.
