You can also choose to learn spanish in Costa Rica by the type of course you want to take. If you want an intensive Spanish course, CPI offers classes in Heredia and Monteverde lasting 4 weeks or less and consist of 23 – 30 classes a week. COSI - the Costa Rica Spanish Institute has the reputation for being the best Spanish school in Latin America. When you choose this school, you get personal instruction from well-trained native Spanish speaking teachers. The classes take place in San Juan and at Manuel Antonio National Park, which is a combination beach and rainforest location. The accommodations are arranged with a host family, so that you are truly immersed in the culture and tours take place on a regular basis so that you get to see as much of the country as possible. The IPEE Spanish School offers standard and intensive Spanish language courses at an accelerated rate. There are three levels of courses and each of these is further subdivided to meet your individual needs. The course runs for five hours a day five days a week leaving you plenty of time for relaxation and to practice your learning in everyday activities. New classes start every Monday, so you can begin whenever you wish. The Adventure Education Center offers a totally unique learning environment when you're ready to learn Spanish in Costa Rica. There are three distinctive locations to choose from – Turrialba, Playa Dominical and Arenal. Each of these locations provides you with an exotic setting where you can explore on your own or as a group and learn the language from native speakers. There are several universities in Costa Rica that participate in student exchange programs for students to come from other countries and study Spanish or continue with their degree programs. The Universidad de Costa Rica offers a program for foreign exchange students, as does the CEA – Cultural Experiences Abroad. The CEA is located in San José and students can study the Spanish language in one of various lengths of courses. These courses are offered as trimester, intensive month long courses or during the summer only.
