And also, both the Spanish and Caribbean food is cooked and prepared in nearly the same way. One of the only noticeable differences between the two is the fact that the Spanish dishes don't use quite as much dressing sauces as the Caribbean dishes use, which causes a slight difference in the flavor. The exact same ingredients are used with both types of food with a slight difference in the two. For instance, both Spanish and Caribbean food and cuisines exhibit the same tradition from way back in the day when the modern-day transportation system did not yet exist. They would utilize ingredients that were easy to harvest and gather, like home-grown fruits and vegetables, freshly caught fish and farm-grown meat. Vegetables like asparagus, peppers, cucumber, garlic, and tomatoes were also used as part of the main meal. However, different types of meats are used as well in both Caribbean and Spanish food. For example, both use pork, beef, chicken, and fish. The same holds true for shrimp, beans, potatoes and mushrooms. Another very popular cuisine that confirms this is called Sofrito. Sofrito is a warm, smooth sauce of tomatoes, onions, sweet peppers and chorizo that is used quite frequently amongst the two cooking cusines, and the nice part about all of this is that you can enjoy the main meal with a slice of wood-roasted bread in both the Spanish and Caribbean food.
Apart from the similarities in the ingredients that are used, the way the food is cooked and prepared is also very similar. For instance, both Spanish and Caribbean food have a large variety of salads to choose from, with raw ingredients accompanied by dressing sauce. The vegetables are boiled in a similar fashion by both as well. Also, the way the rice is cooked is very similar. First the rice is fried with the sofrito sauce and flavored before adding the water to begin boiling. And, we can't forget to mention the variety of different soups and baked beans because there are some definite similarities with these as well. Last but not least, there are a few differences worth mentioning between Spanish and Caribbean food. This is mainly in the area of the salad dressings and the tasty array of herbs and spices that are used. With Caribbean food, different types of dressings are used. On the other hand, Spanish food makes ample use of olive oils and mayonnaise for all of their dishes. Contrastingly, Caribbean food gets of lot of different sauces, like lemon-butter sauce, parmesan-herb cream sauce or even Pick-A-Peppa Sauces - the latter being a mango-tamarind based spicy pepper sauce from Jamaica. Another example in Caribbean food dressings can be found in "jerk" - which basically refers to the process of rubbing spices and acidic hot peppers onto strips of meat in order to tenderize and preserve them. However, the Spanish food doesn't use spicy condiments or sauces. So, to conclude, the Caribbean food still has influences of Spanish cuisine, and as a result, has a lot of similarities, but it has taken its own features and personality.
