Spanish Language Schools in
Massachusetts

Spanish language schools in Massachusetts are inevitable when you
consider the Hispanic population was the fastest growing
segment of Massachusetts between 1990 and 2000.

"The Bay State"

Massachusetts was the most important northern colony, as well as a vital part of New England, where many American institutions and traditions were formed. Unlike southern colonies, it was built around small towns, rather than scattered farms. Massachusetts means "at or about the great hill" or "land of the blue hills" and was named after an Algonquin tribe.

The Pilgrims settled the Plymouth Colony, and Puritan settlers traveled to Salem and later to Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The colony defeated some Indian tribes in King Philip's War in the 1670s, and fought with Britain a series of French and Indian Wars that were characterized by brutal border raids, and successful attacks on Canada. Massachusetts was the center of the American Revolution, starting with battles around Boston in 1775-76.

The state is bordered on the north by New Hampshire and Vermont; on the west by New York; on the south by Connecticut and Rhode Island; and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.

Known as the Bay State, it has several large bays that give its coastline its distinctive shape. Western Massachusetts is more rural and sparsely populated, especially in the Berkshires.

The Hispanic population was the fastest growing segment of Massachusetts during the decade 1990-2000. Between this latest Census taken in 2000 and that taken in 1990, the Hispanic population of Massachusetts grew by 49.1%. In contrast, the total population of the Commonwealth grew only 5.5%. In 2000, Hispanics represented 6.8% of the Massachusetts population. In 1990, Hispanics comprised only 4.8% of the population.

Since the 2000 Census, the Massachusetts Asian population has increased by 19.7%. The Hispanic or Latino population has increased by 15.3%.
